AIMS
On successful completion of this module students should understand the foundations of international trade and the purpose of industrial specialisation. This economic module goes deeper into the learning of rigorous microeconomic tools for the study of trade and specialisation. Micro-analyses will focus on efficiency and distribution.

PEDAGOGICAL DEVICES
Lectures are based on a course text and on the book Politique industrielle et industrie (J. Gazon, vol. 1, De Boeck, Jalons, 1995). Summaries in the form of overhead transparencies (powerpoint presentations) are used during each lecture.

REQUIREMENT
It is highly recommended to have previously followed some courses on microeconomics and macroeconomics.
ASSIGNMENTS AND EXAMINATIONS
One non-compulsory test is held during the course of the semester. Students who pass it successfully are exempted from the chapters concerned. A final written exam is held in January or in late May or early June. If students fail, a second written exam is held in late August or early September.
